19 July 2008, when entire nation was waiting for the announcement of the first ever elected President in Nepal, while on the other hand, youth of Nepal were participating for the election of second president of the Association of Youth organizations of Nepal (AYON).

Regretfully, Nepalese politicians failed to elect new president that day, however, AYON, an umbrella organization of 35 youth organizations elected its second President through a very democratic process. When top political leaders of Nation failed to continue consensus and corporations with each other, Nepalese youth set out the good example of consensus and cooperation.
After the establishment of AYON in the year 2005, there is no turning back for the social movement of youth in Nepal. During the past years AYON was progressive and reached to that stage where no youth and their organizations had ever expected. The period of two years of former executive committee of AYON was successful as it was able to give momentum in the youth social movement and contributed to prove that youth are not only the future of tomorrow but also the partner of present. During that period AYON advocated for youth policy (which is still in the process) and initiated partnership with government and international organizations like World Bank, International Labor Organization, Save the Children, etc. AYON actively participated in election monitoring process of the historical Constitution Assembly Election which was held on April 2008.

AYON was solely responsible to unify youth organizations of Nepal which were then working in isolation. The association provided a common forum for youth organization where common issues of youth were identified as well as it helped to develop the culture of partnership among youth, which is believed, the most admiring work done by AYON.

On July 19, 2008, AYON elected the new executive committee for next two years with new energy and leadership. The election was very successful and actively participated by the representatives of 34 member organizations from all over the Nepal. Now, the association is led by a very inclusive team from different caste, ethnic background, gender and regions. It was very motivating to see the second line leadership being ready to take over the movement initiated by former leaders.

Now there are several challenges lie ahead for the newly executive committee as they need to carry out the momentum that the previous executive committee has started. These days as Nepal is heading towards a new political system, there is high hope of social political and economical transformations. In this context, expectations of youth is also very high, realizing this AYON needs to show its significance in the process of making new Nepal by representing maximum youth in the entire process.

Though former executive committee has already created a base of the association however there still requires assurance of many issues like sustainability, partnership, networking, recognition and many more to function AYON as the national association of youth organizations. Moreover, now AYON should also address issues of or related to youth at every corner of the country in a very serious note to really bring the change.

In present, we can see youth of Nepal being very optimistic as they are ready to support the new president of new Nepal and youth movement with high hopes of positive transformation of nation in every sector.
